From Rescue Dog to Hero Dog! It is hard to believe that Cassidy went from a lost, injured dog being rescued off the side of the street to 3 years later walking down the red carpet in Hollywood and meeting Betty White!
Our Hero Dog journey started months ago when Cassidy was nominated for the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. The past 5 months have been amazing and we have made so many new friends on our journey.
Fast forward to Thursday October 3rd when reality set in after a 2 day drive we had finally pulled up to the Beverly Hilton!
Friday was very exciting waiting to meet the other 7 Hero Dogs and their owners. All day we met and talked with several of the different Hero dog owners and AHA representatives.
Friday I will never forget Chris (Bronx’s Boy) and Travis (Lakota’s handler) sitting on the couch and Cassidy climbed up into the middle between them getting loved from both sides.
Friday night was very exciting we got to mingle with all the Hero Dogs and all the Hero Dog Award sponsors and AHA representatives on top of the roof of the Beverly Hilton! We also had dinner. Each Hero Dog was presented with an amazing custom made collar, leash and engraved lock and hand painted rock. I will cherish these very special gifts forever.
Saturday morning came very fast. After breakfast with all the Hero Dogs the day flew by in preparation for the special night. We had a walk through, hair and makeup, then lots and lots of photos! We felt like real celebrities!
The time had come to walk down the red carpet. There were cameras flashing and reporters asking questions. After the red carpet we were taken into the VIP room where we were interviewed by Lisa Vanderpump. Then we met the very gracious Betty White. Meeting Betty White was definitely the highlight of our night. After we left the room Cassidy was called back in to do an interview with Betty White for Entertainment Tonight. Cassidy was so adorable sitting on Betty White’s lap.
After all the hustle and bustle on the red carpet, VIP room and terrace we were shown to our seat for dinner. Excitement filled the air as the Award Ceremony started. We were the last Hero Dog Team to go on stage to accept our award. Cassidy lead the way up the stairs and onto the stage. Our presenters were Bailee Madison and Rico Rodriguez. After the award ceremony Bailee Madison came up to us and loved on Cassidy.
We loved our trip to Hollywood. Cassidy absolutely loved all the pets and love that he got from everyone he met. He was a busy boy making friends the entire weekend. I know he’s special but having others accepting his cuddles and love meant the world to me.
Thank you so very much to AHA, Robin, Hallmark, Hero Dog Awards and all the sponsors for making our trip to Hollywood a Dream Come True! Congratulations to all 8 Hero Dogs and their handlers, we absolutely loved getting to know you.
